Environmental Job Resources : Environmental Job Resources There are a zillion jobs out there if you know where to look....but most of them aren’t what you’re looking for. I’ve dug up several good internet sites that specialize in environmental jobs and sub-categories therein. These include both administrative and field work, with volunteer positions, internships, and good-paying jobs from a broad variety of employers; federal, state, non-profit, and private. I’ll put little asterisks by the ones I found most helpful but then, I’m always looking for field work, so keep in mind that those which weren’t useful to me might be useful to you. If you can't get a link to work just by clicking on it, cut-and-paste the address into the address section of your browser. Best of luck! Lots of entry-level jobs in the seasonal positions section. Updated daily. *****OrnJobs: http://www.osnabirds.org/on/ornjobs.htm Straightforward, wide variety of bird-related jobs all in one easily-printable list. Updated once or twice a month, or you could join the e-mail list. *****Society for Conservation Biology (SCB): http://www.conbio.org/jobs/ Search or browse, great variety. I got a seasonal job with The Nature Conservancy from this site. Updated daily. ****FlipDog: http://www.flipdog.com This is a big general job search site now owned by Monster.com but it actually has quite a few environmental jobs listed. It also has THE BEST search engine...you can actually use it to look for a job you'd want. (use keywords) ***EcoEmploy.com: http://www.ecoemploy.com/ Very selective list of environmental jobs, not much wildlife work, but easy to skim, easy to use. ***SER Employment: http://www.ser.org Great site, click on "careers", everything right there, mostly mid- to upper-level jobs. Also good for general restoration info. **EE Link: http://eelink.net/cgi-bin/ee-link/view_jobs.cgi Lots of listings, mostly director or coordinator positions, but also some very different jobs as well. **Environmental Career Opportunities: http://www.ecojobs.com/ Not as many entry-level positions, but jobs divided into helpful categories, easy to use. Internships also. *Green Dream Jobs: http://www.sustainablebusiness.com/jobs/ Not many jobs, but wide variety, easy to skim. Mostly business and management related. Seattle Times classifieds: http://marketplace.nwsource.com/classified/ Good way to find jobs in our (Pacific Northwest) area. Ecology Careers: http://www.eco.org Undergrads and recent grads only. Lots of paid internships. Great general resource for environmental careers. This is actually an organization that places employees with employers, so you deal with them rather than directly with the companies. It can be an intimidating process. Colorado Guide: http://www.coloradoguide.com/careers/searchjob.cfm A few good jobs, clogged with old job postings that are impossible to sort out. BiologyJobs.com: http://www.biologyjobs.com Sometimes has a job or two posted. The Career Center, Colorado State University: http://www.warnercnr.colstate.edu/careers/connectwithemployersandjobs.html Sadly, this job board is not available to guests anymore. Great list of jobs for students and alumni only. Good resource for job links if you browse around a little. Environmental Construction Engineering Architectural Jobs Online: http://www.eceajobs.com/ Formerly Environmental Contract Professionals at www.ecbonline.com. Must log in (free and annoying). Once a good site, very few jobs posted here currently. The Ecological Society of America: http://www.esa.org/ Now requires $50 ESA membership to view. Not worth it. Monster.com: http://monster.com This is, of course, the infamous Monster.com as advertised on t.v. I didn’t get much from it but as it grows the environmental jobs might be posted there more. Other stuff: Clallam County's webpage: http://www.clallam.net A great resource for residents and others, with excellent aerial and topo maps, plus links and contact info for various services. NatureServe, the Online Encyclopedia of Life: http://www.natureserve.org/index.htm No lie, this place has a wealth of free biological information. ConserveOnline (from The Nature Conservancy): http://www.conserveonline.org/ Another vast data resource library. This also uses NatureServe. TerraServer: http://www.terraserver.com Maps from varied sources available online. Satellite images, aerial photos, and other maps available, not free anymore, but hey they gotta make a living. Guestbook : My name is Darcy Stumbaugh and I am from Sequim, Washington. I work as a seasonal field technician all over the U.S., studying plants and wildlife for a variety of government and private organizations. My work introduces me to many amazing ecosystems and on the weekends I often return to photograph wildlife. My specialty is bird photography. In the spring of 2006 I participated in the Valley Land Fund South Texas Shootout, a high-stakes wildlife photography contest. Each photographer teams with a ranch and only submits photos taken on the ranch during the 3-month contest. My partner, La Brisa Ranch, and I were awarded first place in the grouped category of "Hummingbirds, Nightjars, Swallows, and Swifts", for a photo of a poorwill with newborn chick.
